Oli Rockberger, Paul Booth, Jacqui Dankworth and the Will Butterworth Quartet are just a few of the names contributing to the cross-over flavour of this year’s Margate Jazz Festival, 23-25 September.
Singer-songwriter, producer and keys man Oli Rockberger divides his time between New York and London. Performing credits have included Carly Simon, Randy Brecker, Steve Gadd, John Mayer, Chris Dave and The Drumhedz, Gloria Gaynor and award-winning UK songstress Laura Mvula.
Home legend saxophonist Paul Booth will be presenting his eclectic ensemble the Patchwork Project and featuring the ever-popular singer Jacqui Dankworth. Paul's extensive links to both the jazz and rock worlds—he is a regular member of Steve Winwood’s band and has also worked with Steely Dan, Carlos Santana and Eric Clapton—are reflected in his current work and will be on show.
Talented composer and pianist Will Butterworth will be joined by Seb Pipe on alto sax, Nick Pini on bass and Dylan Howe on drums to play “The Nightingale and The Rose”, a part-composed part-improvised suite inspired by Oscar Wilde’s children’s story of the same name.
Mozambique-born singer-songwriter Maiuko will be supported by her quartet of Martin Virgo on piano, Alex Keen on double bass, Vince Clarke on drums and Paul Brasington on violin. Maiuko’s unique approach blends jazz, blues, and African/Portuguese inspired rhythms and tunes to produce work that has been described as ethereal, almost sensual.
