“TODD – MAGIC GEEZER”
A world premiere of a brand new play written by actor and playwright Ace Books.
Todd Matshikiza was born in South Africa in 1921 and came from a long line of musicians and singers. He first worked as a teacher but also composed various songs and choral works and travelled widely as a jazz musician. But he is best known for composing the music and some of the lyrics for the first all African Jazz Opera 'King Kong', about the life of the heavyweight boxer Ezekiel Dlamini. This sparkling, original play follows the conception and creation of 'King Kong', which was a nationwide hit and transferred to London's West End in 1961.
