Oliver MacDonald: Shape Arts Adam Reynolds Memorial Bursary

13 Feb 2017 - 07 May 2017

Turner Contemporary is pleased to host the 2016/17 Shape Arts Adam Reynolds Memorial Bursary for a mid-career disabled artist. The recipient of the bursary is sculptor Oliver MacDonald. He will undertake a residency at Turner Contemporary in the Clore Learning Studio from 7 February to 31 April 2017.

Traditionally trained as a willow weaver, Oliver will spend his residency exploring basket-weaving and its materials through a conceptual lens, creating large-scale, performative objects and installations on-site. For three months he will be using his research and material knowledge, alongside local history and environment, as a platform for creating willow artworks to convey intersecting ideas of tradition, obsolescence, occupational therapy and the physicality of making.

Members of the public are invited to drop into the Clore Learning Studio to meet Oliver, witness him at work, and engage with his practice at any time throughout the residency during Turner Contemporary's opening hours: Tuesdays to Sundays (and Bank Holiday Monday on 17 April) from 10am to 5pm.

The ARMB, set up by Shape in memory of sculptor Adam Reynolds, supports mid-career disabled artists looking to develop their practice and build their profile by offering funds and a three month residency at a high-profile arts venue.
