Patrick Wilkins

28 Aug 2017 - 10 Sep 2017

Patrick’s distinctive style is a combination of his eye for detail as a former engineering product designer (designing all manner of things from pub signs to thermos flasks) and his love of American realist art (in particular Edward Hopper and Andrew Wyeth) fuelled by many visits to the USA. Patrick’s style lends itself perfectly to capturing the detail and the atmosphere of all things Thanet including the extraordinary coastal light, the lighthouse and many other architectural gems.

Patrick began entering competitions in 2014 and quickly gained recognition; in 2015 he exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, more recently a picture was shortlisted for Artist and Illustrators Magazine ‘Artist of the Year 2017’, and his picture of Cliff Terrace in Margate ‘All Shook Down’ won the President’s Award at the 2017 UK Coloured Pencil Society Annual Open exhibition. After combining a day job with his art for some years, Patrick is now a full time artist and this has allowed him the opportunity to put together his first solo exhibition.
