Each year in October, the East Kent Artists Open Houses event covers Canterbury, Faversham, Whitstable and Thanet and invites art enthusiasts to visit artists in their own studios.
This week Brian Hodgson & Karen Hiscock-Lawrence take a busman's holiday from curating their gallery by hosting their own exhibition in their working studio space.
Brian continues to produce beautifully atmospheric studies of light and shade which many liken to Hopper. This year he has once again sort inspiration in the cobbled streets of Edinburgh and the sunny towns of the mediterranean, as well as the wonderful ever-changing vistas from the Thanet coastline. He has recently been accepted by the East Kent Art Society as a full Member and will be exhibit with them from this year onwards.
Karen brings her usual mixture of illustrative works, resin Koi pieces and oil palette knife studies of the local coast and Broadstairs townscapes. This summer has been an exceptionally busy one for Karen, with a foray into the world of painting competitions. 'I was selected as a wild card participant in the Sky Arts Landscape Painter of the Year competition and took part in a heat early in the summer which was really exciting.
Busman's Holiday will run from 10th - 15th October, with the first of the Open Houses weekend running from 14-15th October, followed by 21st-22nd and 28-29th October.
Open Tuesday - Saturday 10am - 5pm and Sunday 11am-4pm
