The Shakespeare Revue

13 Apr 2018 - 15 Apr 2018

Friday 13th and Saturday 14th April at 7.30pm. Sunday 15th April at 2.30pm.

Following their success of ‘The Lark’ at St Peter’s Church in November, Broadstairs Dicken Players are again taking a slightly different direction for their Spring production.

The Shakespeare Revue came about on Shakespeare’s birthday, 23rd April 1993, when the RSC was planning a celebratory service. They were looking for some light relief amongst the more serious readings and in searching for material, came to realise how many comic writers have used shakespeare for their inspiration. They compiled a wonderful collection of sketches, songs, poems and extracts from comic novels, all of which are inspired by or mention (mainly irreverently!) our most famous playwright.

It was first performed at The Barbican in 1994 and subsequently transferred to the West End. It includes material from such geniuses as Cole Porter, Monty Python, Alan Bennett, Victoria Wood and Beyond the Fringe.

Broadstairs Dickens Players are delighted to welcome several new faces to this production as well as many familiar members to local theatre goers, such as Jon Carr, Andrew Nolan, Sam Grant and Miranda Peacock.

We are also very fortunate to have Brigitte Rennie of Mosaic Cat Productions joining the production and flying home from Australia to appear with us!

Many theatre goers will be familiar with the musical talents of Chris Wimhurst who has bravely taken up the challenge of Musical Director and will be plying his trade on the piano during the run.

Tickets £11 in advance/friends, £13 on the door
