Mini route six

Beaches and Bays ride – 8.5km (5.25 miles) - Optional extended additional ride from Minnis Bay to Reculver 6.25km (3.75 miles)
Take a great big breath of fresh sea air and unwind as you enjoy this completely coastal ride from Margate Harbour to Minnis Bay in Birchington, which takes in eight bays, many of which hold Quality Coast or Blue Flag Awards.
Margate Harbour and Piazza
Margate harbour and piazza area is a great mix of the traditional and new. The small harbour is home to a few fishing boats and a great little cockle and whelk stall, you can even get jellied eels here! Droit House, on the harbour wall, has regular exhibitions throughout the year, whilst just across the road the piazza area is alive with restaurants and cafes serving anything from fish and chips and a cup of tea to roasted vegetable pannini and cappuccinos.
Main Sands and Seafront
A great stretch of golden, sandy beach on one side with amusement arcades, candy floss and ice cream stalls on the other, all overlooked by Margate’s landmark clocktower.
Strokes Adventure Golf
Test your skill on this new 18-hole mini golf course, right on the promenade. Refreshments and toilets on site.
Westbrook Bay
A long, sandy beach with promenade, café and designated water ski area.
St. Mildred’s Bay
A lovely sandy bay with promenade, cliffs, tidal pool and cafes. Tennis and putting nearby.
West Bay
A sandy bay with rocky areas, promenade, cliffs and café. Public house just opposite main slipway. From West Bay the route takes the cliff top road for a short distance before dropping back down to the promenade at Epple Bay.
Epple Bay, Beresford Gap and Grenham Bay
These are smaller, quiet bays that you will pass on the promenade ride to Minnis Bay.
Minnis Bay
Minnis Bay is a beautiful bay popular with families, as well as sailing and windsurfing enthusiasts; you can also get kite board lessons here. There is a promenade, paddling pool and café/restaurant, and nearby a children’s play area. This bay is in close proximity to Thanet’s beautiful countryside, and is also home to extensive mussel beds.
Should you wish to extend your ride, the Viking Coastal Trail continues here along the sea wall towards Reculver, whose twin towers can be seen in the distance.
