Explore underground and discover over 200 years of history in Margate
Friday 6th & Sunday 8th, Wednesday 11th - Friday 13th September 10am-4.30pm
Explore underground and discover over 200 years of history in Margate.
Under the hill of Cliftonville lies the Margate caves. From chalk mines to a rich man’s playground the caves have been used in a variety of ways over the years. Open to the public on and off since Victorian times, venture down the tunnel, explore the caves and chat to the friendly team who can spin tales of years gone by.
Access
To enter the Caves you have to go down 30 steps, 15 of which are carved from chalk and uneven, this is then followed by a 15 metre tunnel which has uneven floors. Throughout the Caves the floors are uneven, though well lit. Unfortunately due to the nature of the Caves and chalk we are not wheelchair or pushchair accessible.
