Sculptural, earthy artworks inspired by ancient finds in the Thanet landscape...
2 -5pm
Sara Trillo's Gone to Earth is a response to archaeological hoards found, and settlements lost, on the former island Thanet.
Sara says:
'This piece is Ozengell, inspired by an Anglo Saxon brooch found on a site which until a couple of years ago was wheat and corn fields near the sea close to Pegwell Bay. The fields have been grubbed up to make way for cheaply built houses which are unimaginatively designed and appear to be ecologically un-informed- the estate is called Saxon Fields...I drive past Ozengell most weeks and it always make me feel enormously sad. The "sling" surrounding the black clay "brooch" is made of hand sewn, pomegranate dyed textile stuffed with straw. You can't see in the photos but the "sling"is just over 4 metres in height and hangs from the central girder in the project space.'
