WWI Remembered

2018 marks the 100th anniversary since the end of World War I. To mark the occasion a series of events and displays are being planned in commemoration across Margate, Broadstairs, Ramsgate and the Villages

*Saturday 10th November Wreath Laying and Service, Ramsgate Cemetery at 10.50am
*Saturday 10th November St Peter’s WWI Graves Tour at 9.45am
*Saturday 10th November Remembrance Procession at Westwood Cross at 10am plus display between 11am-3pm of vintage clothing, vehicles and singing
*Saturday 10th (11am - 3pm & 7-10pm) and Sunday 11th November (12-3pm) Poppy Proms in the Park at Memorial Recreation Ground, Broadstairs
*Sunday 11th November Broadstairs and St Peter’s Concert Band, Broadstairs Pavilion
Sunday 11th November Afternoon of music from Swingtime Sweethearts and Hotsy Totsy
*Monday 12th November Minster Primary School Service of Remembrance at Spitfire and Hurricane Museum
*Sunday 18th November 1918 Voices 2018 3pm at The Grange
*Sunday 25th November 1918 Voices 2018 3pm at the Sailors Church

*Margate Museum will be home to 11 seated soldier silhouettes representing the 444 service personnel and a further 2 representing the 18 civilians who lost their lives
*Westwood Cross are creating an art installation of 500 poppies made from recycled plastic bottles, that will adorn the Memorial Wall at the site of the old Haine Road Hospital that bears inscriptions from Soldiers treated there
*Over 17,000 poppies have been knitted and crocheted to create a display in Minster
*Ramsgate Waterfall and Destiny, the First World War commemorative statue in Albion Gardens have been decorated with over 8000 knitted and crocheted poppies
