Turner Contemporary is an internationally-renowned Gallery showing contemporary and historical art.

In a striking building designed by award-winning architect Sir David Chipperfield, Turner Contemporary presents a rolling programme of temporary exhibitions, events and learning opportunities.

With stunning views over Margate Sands and free entry to all exhibitions, Turner Contemporary makes great art accessible to all. Visit today to be inspired.

Since opening, the Gallery has exhibited the work of countless international artists, including Turner Prize nominees and winners Antony Gormley, Tracey Emin, Jeremy Deller, Grayson Perry, Yinka Shonibare, and Paula Rego.

A shop and outdoor terrace are available for visitors to enjoy during Gallery opening hours. The gallery is also available for venue hire.

A pop up cafe run by Staple is available until the end of December 2023. From 20th January 2024 cafe 'Louie-on-Sea' open 

Turner Contemporary’s world-class learning programme includes educational activities, events and projects using hands-on exploration and philosophical enquiry. The gallery welcomes hundreds of school children and groups every week. Free Highlight Tour - Join one of Turner Contemporary’s engagement assistants for a free highlight tour to discover the stories behind the art. Meet in the main foyer space on the ground floor. Check website to find out what exhibitions are currently on. Daily (Summer hours: Tuesday-Sunday plus bank holidays, Winter Hours: Wednesday-Sunday plus bank holidays) at 11.30am. Free entry.

Art Rebels Family Workshops - Find your creative side with Turner Contemporary’s fun family workshops linked to the current exhibition at the gallery. Saturdays and Sundays, plus Bank Holidays 1-4pm. Check listings for extra workshops during holidays and half terms. Free entry.

 

Access Information

  • The gallery is fully wheelchair accessible with an outdoor ramp and lift serving both floors.
  • Wheelchairs are available for visitors. Please contact us ahead of your visit if you would like to book one. Portable stools are also available.
  • Please ask a member of staff upon arrival if you would like to use one.
  • Large print text, magnifying sheets and audio versions of exhibition text are available. Ask a member of staff for more information.
  • We welcome guide dogs, hearing dogs and assistance dogs in the gallery.
