Canadian singer-songwriter Andrew Rodgers performs live in Margate
8pm
Andrew Rodgers is a professional musician from St. John's, on Canada's NE coast.
As a songwriter, he's always on the hunt for new and interesting stories. After discovering one in his own family, Andrew talked to his Great Grandmother, who was a war-bride originally from the London area of Great Britain. She lived through WWII, met Andrew's Great Grandfather during his military service, and together they travelled back to Sam's hometown of Fair Haven, to begin a new life after the war.
Andrew realises this story of perseverance should be preserved through song and began a quest for knowledge to better understand his Great Grandparents' story. He spoke with local war historians, other war-bride families, and retraced his Great Grandmother's footsteps in Europe in an attempt to gain a greater understanding of the challenges they may have faced during those times. His journey of discovery culminates with a new song, and a newfound respect for his own family's unbelievable past.
