Join the Ramsgate Tunnels Team for one of their dramatic blackout tours

Let experienced guides take you back to the dark days of November 1940, lit only with paraffin lamps.

As the bitterly cold winter of 1940 set in, Ramsgate was a town in the grips of war, scarred by earlier air raids with a population hoping that it would all be over by Christmas. Air raids continued throughout the month, including some perpetrated by aircraft of the Italian Air Force!

Meanwhile, below ground, residents of the tunnels grew restless as conditions started to deteriorate as good will started to run thin.

Owing to restricted visibility on the tours and the paraffin lamps used, it is deemed unsuitable for those aged 12 and below and for those with restricted mobility.

Due to the uneven and occasionally rough nature of the tunnel floor, sensible shoes should be worn for the air raid experience with warm clothing strongly encouraged as the temperature remains at a constant 11ºc.
