Taking inspiration from the gallery's coastal location, this workshop invites you to explore the natural world through chalk at Turner Contemporary in Margate

11.30am – 1pm

Tracing chalk’s journey from microscopic seaborne phytoplankton to towering cliff rock, Fiona will reveal the material’s rich history while exploring its transformative qualities through rubbing, crushing, smudging, and mixing it onto paper. Using hands, skin, and found objects as mark-making tools, you will be encouraged to experiment freely and connect with chalk in unexpected ways.

Working with simple materials including seawater, chalk, seaweed, and everyday objects, you will observe, play, and create through guided experimentation, leaving with your own unique drawings inspired by the coast.
