Meet Ug... Ug is a little cave child with one very important mission: Ug want hug. But finding the perfect hug isn't quite as easy as it sounds...

Full of warmth, humour and expressive illustrations, Ug Want Hug is a joyful story about friendship, connection and understanding what we all need sometimes — a little kindness and a great big hug. Perfect for sharing aloud, this playful picture book is sure to delight young readers and their grown-ups alike.

Join author-illustrator Nancy Leschnikoff at Happy Reading Children's Bookshop for a prehistoric morning of stories, creativity and BIG hugs as they celebrate her delightful picture book Ug Want Hug!

As part of the first day of Independent Bookshop Week 2026, Nancy is welcomed to the bookshop for a special storytime and creative activity inspired by her charming new picture book.

And there's even more excitement in store - Nancy will also be transforming the bookshop window with a wonderful Ug Want Hug-themed illustration for families to enjoy throughout Independent Bookshop Week!

Every child takes home their own copy of Ug Want Hug and limited edition artwork print to treasure!

During the session, the responsible adult(s) are very welcome to enjoy their favourite coffee and pastry downstairs at STAPLE or come and hang out upstairs in the bookshop!!

Children will sit for the reading, then move to a play/craft table for activities. All materials are provided and age-appropriate.

Booking is essential — spaces are limited!
