Historical Talk and Tour of the Walpole Bay Hotel, Museum and Napery Gallery in Margate.
Tours: Friday 11th - Sunday 20th at 11am, duration approximately 1.5 hours.
The family-run Walpole Bay Hotel, built in 1914 and owned by the Bishop family since 1995, incorporates a fascinating Living Museum. Owner Jane Bishop will give a one-hour talk on the hotel's history. Enter via the original 1914 marble steps and take the marvellous trellis-gated Otis lift, installed in 1927 and still working perfectly. Following the talk, you are invited to explore the exhibits packed across all five floors on your own. A wonderful recent addition is the vintage Walpole Bay Ship Spotters Club telescope, currently being restored to full working order.
Tea rooms, Veranda and Lounge Bar will be open from 11am until 8pm for the public on Heritage Open Days. The Museum and Napery Gallery will also be open at the same time.
Pre-booking preferred by phone 01843 221703 or email info@walpolebayhotel.co.uk
