Summer art exhibition, generating joy and pride - celebrating community stories at Dreamland, Margate
Open daily 11am - 6pm
An exciting exhibition of exquisitely detailed, cool little shrines depicting members of a dynamic community - who are all icons - is showing at Dreamland in Margate, throughout the summer from 19 July to 5 September 2025.
Icons of Margate & Cliftonville, generously funded by Arts Council England, has been conceived and facilitated by multidisciplinary artist Carson Parkin-Fairley, in partnership with local community groups and individuals who nominated themselves, or were nominated, to be icons.
Carson herself created four of the artworks - depicting people the community asked to be included. The rest were produced, with guidance from the artist and her team, by the featured individuals themselves, at a series of nurturing, creative workshops that took place at multiple venues in the community.
The exhibition’s aim is to offer visitors an intimate glimpse into the lives and stories of local people in this fascinating and ever evolving town - while the creation of each of the shrines provided the participants themselves a chance to consider and celebrate what they love about themselves and what’s important to them.
