A week long show of paintings, performances, talks, books, and music
12 noon
A new arts festival is to be hosted in Thanet.
Taking place at the historic Walpole Bay Hotel, the Island Arts Festival will be a week long show of paintings, performances, talks, books, and music next month.
Paintings will be by local artists, together with books by Thanet authors, set in the classic 110 year old ballroom of the hotel which will form the backdrop to a week of daily events.
Starting at midday on 18th October with a writers’ seminar, the show will include a children’s story telling afternoon, readings from books by Charles Dickens, a pottery and ceramics class, talks on health through singing and an open mic session for musicians.
The opening ceremony will be attended by the Mayor of Margate, Cllr Leo Britcher, at midday on 18th October with the festival running through to 24th October.
Organiser and author Richard Savin says he hopes the festival will become an annual event.
