Thanet-based author Chris MacDonald discusses his latest novel In the Shadows, a murder mystery set in the darkly glamorous world of 1970’s rock ‘n’ roll.

In the Shadows opens in Chelsea, 1977, as the lifeless body of Nërëus Forbes, infamous frontman of The Marshalls, is discovered in a locked room. Police rule his death an accidental overdose, but rumours of foul play abound. Forty years later, investigative journalist Winter Harris decides to interview those who knew Nërëus best, including her own father, one-time guitarist in The Marshalls. The deeper Winter delves into the past, the more treacherous her search for answers becomes...

Chris MacDonald has worked extensively as an actor, also going behind the scenes as a playwright, screenwriter and soundtrack composer across TV, film and theatre. He has published four novels, his debut Happy Ever After, 2021 thriller The Family Friend, 2024's The Actor and, of course, In the Shadows.

He'll be discussing the latter in conversation with fellow local author Adam Weymouth, whose acclaimed latest book, Lone Wolf, tracks the extraordinary journey of a single wolf from Slovenia and across the alps into Italy.
