This body of work reflects cycles of depression & mania, from happy hallucinations to representations of anxiety, through fairground attraction imagery.
Max communicates these ideas through semi-surreal representations of Margate, a town which experiences both yearly cycles through the high and low seasons and over decades has had periods of extreme boom and bust. The vivid imagery of the amusement arcades is juxtaposed with the sometimes grim & gritty reality of coastal living.
