A Creative Workshop Inspired by Asafo Flags at People Dem Collective in Margate
11am - 1pm
This participatory art workshop invites community members of all ages to explore the visual storytelling of Asafo flags — vibrant, symbolic textiles from Ghana used historically by warrior groups to express identity, strength, and protection.
Participants will learn about the cultural significance of these flags, then create their own symbolic flag on paper using paints and markers.
Each flag will represent personal traits, values, or strengths—such as resilience, humour, intuition, or courage.
The workshop also includes a simple, joyful group refrain sung at intervals:
“My flag is waving in the wind, in the wind. My flag is waving in the wind.”
The song grounds the activity in a shared rhythm and celebration of each person’s inner power.
Free but booking advised
