Abbie Ziegler at the Wooden Box Gallery in Ramsgate
Open 11am - 3pm
"I am an artist living in Ramsgate. I paint and make textile art. I love playing with words in my art, and I really enjoy painting found objects, such as bed pans, or flattened tin cans! My style is quite graphic and very colourful.
In 2022, I discovered I had breast cancer. This was treated with chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy, and I thought it was all clear. However, it returned in 2025, and has metastasized- there’s no recovering this time. Hence the title of my exhibition- this isn’t my first rodeo, but it will be my last.
When I had my first bout with cancer, the images that came to mind were jugs (breasts!) and eyes (all eyes on me). This time, I am visualizing my cancer as a crow, with its claws in me, ready to carry me off. These motifs can be seen throughout my recent art work. I also love painting faces and cats! I like to think I have kept my sense of (rather dark) humour throughout my health situation, and I really do believe that a positive mindset really helps me to keep going, even though my prognosis is poor.
Expect art on canvas and paper, framed works, painted sick bowls and bed pans, painted tin cans, knitted banners and crowns, and some swear wordy pieces!"
