National Tree Week 2025 runs Saturday 22nd to Sunday 30th November, and Thanet Urban Forest is celebrating all-things-tree by organising Tree Walks in parks and woodland in Thanet.
National Tree Week (NTW), from The Tree Council and partners, marks the traditional start of the winter tree planting season. At this time of year, trees are dormant and so experience the least stress when being placed in their new homes – to hopefully thrive into maturity, bringing huge nature, wellbeing and biodiversity benefits to all.
National Tree Week is a great opportunity to celebrate trees in Thanet! Take a walk with Thanet Urban Forest in the woods guided by tree expert Peter Hasted, to discover what these trees mean to so many people.
All walks will last 1 to 1.5 hours
Saturday 22nd November 11am at Tivoli Woods, Margate - Tivoli Woods at the south eastern end of Hartsdown Park in Margate has mature trees and several pathways running through it, as well as lots of wildlife, including parakeets and woodpeckers.
Sunday 23rd November 11am at Montefiore Woodlands, Ramsgate - The woodland at Montefiore has a mixture of both native and naturalised trees which provide forage, shelter and shade for birds, hedgehogs and several species of butterfly alongside habitat for pollinators and pest predators
Saturday 29th November 11am at Sunken Garden, Westbrook, Margate - Find out about the plants in the Garden which have been selected to thrive in this unique coastal region. They must withstand regular northeasterly, salt-laden winds and the maritime microclimate.
Sunday 30th November 1pm at St Peter’s Churchyard, Broadstairs - The attractive and pleasant churchyard of St Peter’s is one of the longest in the country and the largest “Closed Churchyard” in England. It holds a variety of planting and naturalised trees, wildlife and pollinators.
