Through film, sound, objects and spatial interventions, the project explores how identity can be shaped by law, media, sport and spectacle — and how narratives about race are repeated, performed and absorbed over time.
The garage space at Harold Road becomes a constellation of moving image works, sculptural gestures and listening environments. Visitors are invited to walk through, spend time, and build their own readings.
Two major film works remix archival television, cinema and documentary material, while other installations move between evidence, memory, celebration and contradiction.
Alongside the exhibition, public conversations will take place with invited artists and community groups including People Dem Collective and Everyday Racism.
Originally conceived for UK Black History Month, the programme now unfolds during North American Black History Month.
