A guided listening experience exploring how fear is heard and felt through Jerry Goldsmith's Alien score at Margate Arts Club
7.30pm - 9.30pm
1. Fear - The Body Under Threat - A Soundtrack Journey through 'Alien' (1979)
Socialcreatures is a small team of creatives, musicians, audiophiles, technologists and therapists who create guided music listening events.
They create smaller connected experiences for 30-60 people. Using intentional listening and often exploring the psychological themes within music and their therapeutic benefits, they focus on artist curated music... so albums, film scores and other experimental forms.
Join them for an intimate two-hour journey through the Nostromo, from the crew's waking to Ripley's final escape. Goldsmith places environment before monster: machine hum, orchestral chill, uneasy silence, and textures that make the ship feel alive before the creature is fully revealed.
Listen for threats you hear before you see them, notice how rhythm tightens the corridors around you, and ask what your body does as the chase gathers pace. When the score finally releases its grip, does it sound like safety or only a pause?
Connect, relax and quietly settle in with 30 other guests in the intimate and comfortable surroundings of the Margate Arts Club.
Rather than watching the film, you’ll listen to the score as a story. Expect a focused soundtrack listen, minimal non-distracting visuals and text to set context, and a relaxed discussion about how music turns unseen threat, industrial space and bodily tension into fear on screen.
For Alien fans, soundtrack lovers, film fans, DJs, selectors and anyone interested in intentional listening.
