Goat. Book. Dad. follows a man who has lived with his father for decades without ever quite managing to understand him, using tight, unfussy writing and a single performer to trace the small negotiations, silences and loyalties that shape their days.
Written and performed by Broadstairs playwright Steven Todd, Goat. Book. Dad. was first seen at the Faversham Fringe, where it sold out; since then, the piece has built a quiet reputation for being both sharply funny and unexpectedly moving.
Audience responses have been strikingly consistent: “absolutely brilliant,” “well-written, very well acted,” “amusing and moving at the same time.” There is no spectacle here, just careful storytelling, close attention to character and the particular charge that comes when one person holds a room on their own.
Previously performed to great effect at Margate's Tom Thumb Theatre.
