Exploring the myth of the English Landscape at the Margate Caves
Open Friday - Sunday 11am - 4pm
Green and Pleasant lands formed of flora and fauna from around the globe, often introduced as a result of colonial pursuits, are depicted with dissolving and corroding paint, as myth, landscape and paint are 'un-done'.
Meanwhile, parallel themes that revere nature and contemplate its sensory, healing and psychological effects come to the fore.
The exhibition appears in the Margaret Bryan Gallery, a space named after one of Britain’s pioneering women in science education, who lived on the Caves site in the 18th Century. Margaret ran a boarding school here for young women, teaching astronomy and the sciences, a radical pursuit at the time. The gallery will continue in the spirit of providing inspiration in an accessible space.
Each piece will be available for sale.
Entry to the gallery is free, standard rates apply for entry to the Caves below ground.
Late opening on Friday 24th January, 6.30pm – 8.30pm with live poetry readings by Lorraine Williams and Jessica Taggart Rose.
