Awesome Tapes will headline the next United Friendship Disco at Margate's Arts Club

8pm - 2am

Since 2006, Brian Shimkovitz's Awesome Tapes From Africa blog has been shedding light on obscure and wonderful sounds from across the continent.

Awesome Tapes DJ sets celebrate the music and musicians whose cassettes Shimkovitz has collected over the years.

In 2011, ATFA developed into a critically acclaimed label, re-releasing records by African artists including Ata Kak, Dur-Dur Band, Hailu Mergia and Penny Penny. His DJ sets on twin tape decks explore deep, regional sounds using analog-anchored agility not heard or seen anywhere else.

The amazing Nadz and Spezial will be warming up alongside resident Robbie from United Freedom Collective. Expect a vibrant mix of Egyptian and Lebanese pop, Raï, Dabke, Balkan and plenty of un-Shazamable edits.

This WILL sell out so do not sleep on it!

As always, it is advised to arrive before 9pm if possible - there is fantastic music from 8pm and Awesome tapes will be going on early.
