An afternoon of free curated art exhibitions and talks across several venues
Yamo Lates is designed to encourage art lovers to break away from their traditional gallery routines and explore new territories. Through a programme of artist talks and guided tours, visitors will have the unique opportunity to engage with the makers and do-ers in an intimate setting. This afternoon of specially curated exhibition viewings and talks will take place across some of Margate’s most exciting galleries and is completely free and open to all.
Built for the curious and the creative, gowithYamo is a digital art platform and free app, founded with a desire to make art more accessible and dedicated to spotlighting the most exciting artists working today.
Featuring a diverse range of art spaces, from major established galleries to emerging venues, Yamo Lates offers attendees a comprehensive and eclectic snapshot of Margate's thriving art scene. Participating Galleries:
* Turner Contemporary - Ed Clark (10am - 5pm)
2pm-3pm: Tour of exhibition
Turner Contemporary presents the first institutional exhibition in Europe dedicated to pioneering artist Ed Clark (1926-2019). The exhibition will unite paintings and works on paper from the 1940s to 2000s, including loans from The Art Institute of Chicago, Brooklyn Museum and Detroit Institute of Arts, many of which have not been seen outside the USA.
* Kavel Rafferty Gallery - 'Duly Noted' (10am - 5pm)
10am-11am: Early access preview and meet the curator
This exhibition features the works of two distinct artists, Louise Melchior and Kavel Rafferty. Lou Melchior explores the concept of recognisable nothingness through sculpture and photography. Her recent exploration of collage blends these mediums, offering a fresh perspective on the mundane.
Meanwhile, Kavel Rafferty employs mixed media to resurrect discarded items, infusing them with new meaning. Through chaos and spontaneity, Kavel crafts narratives on femininity and connection, constantly exploring the interplay of removal and remaining.
* Liminal Gallery - 'Nest' (11am - 5pm)
12pm-1pm: Curator’s tours and refreshments
Through the lens of painting and drawing, Thomas Langley's practice is deeply concerned with the fundamental mechanics of image creation, manifesting in pulsating rhythmic compositions. The foundation of this body of work lies in traps, nests, and vessels, serving as anchors for concepts of place, home and travel. Langley imparts permanence to these temporal structures through a sculpted and almost drawn approach to painting, with thick impasto application.
Plus, in The Cupboard, Lucy Lyons' 'Seven and a half' offers a look into the human mind, where reality and imagination intricately blur...
* Lido Stores - 'Shelter' (11am - 5pm)
3pm - 4pm: Early access preview, curator's tours & refreshments
Shelter is a group show, featuring artists Dylan Williams, Enzo Marra, Gareth Griffith, and Jenny Wiggins. It explores different interpretations of the concept of shelter: the security it can offer, the safety that it can provide, the home that it can become. A simple luxury that is unfortunately and unfairly not available to all.
Each artist replying via their own experience of the world, painted and sculpted reactions to a pertinent need and desire for somewhere that is their own. A roof over your head, a window to look out of, a space of solitude when needed, a shelter.
* Well Projects - 'Wilt' (11am - 6.30pm)
4pm - 6.30pm: Complete the Yamo Lates challenge to receive your free Goodie Bag
Well Projects are excited to present ‘Wilt’, a solo exhibition of new works by Jesse Pollock. Pollock presents a strange garden of skeletal fauna and puffy flora. The disorienting material qualities of these objects, sitting somewhere between a marshmallow or injection moulded plastic, are a product of an unusual process that uses sand casting and plasma cutting to build up and excavate surfaces in a way that draws parallels with the kind of three-dimensional drawing often encountered in virtual reality programmes.
From hidden gems to the latest blockbuster retrospectives, gowithYamo’s curated guide to thousands of exhibitions across the UK and Ireland lets you navigate effortlessly through your local artistic landscape.
