A slow-burn coming-of-age story erupts into violence in this incendiary novel from Uruguayan author Ladra and translator Miriam Toibin, a tinderbox of unruly desire, cruelty and prejudice. As a young girl, Marga, waits to turn thirteen, a cargo ship idles on the shore of a small, humid fishing town. The ship bears a stranger, Recio, who will break the townspeople's stagnant silence and expose their warped traditions.

The Bookclub is open to all and there’s no requirement to read every book and turn up to every meeting, come whenever you fancy!
