Wild Shore Walk

26th July 2026

Connect with the coast, learn how it's changing, and what we can do to protect it, on this walk along Botany Bay.

Start time: 11am

Tideline is a youth-led collective fighting for the health of the wild coast and its communities.

"In Kent, we don’t often think of our sea as a wilderness. We may even think it’s rather empty or barren. Yet our sea contains habitats and wildlife that can be found almost nowhere else. From rare reef systems, and global migrations, to the world’s most iconic marine wildlife, our sea can offer us vital lessons in resilience amidst a rapidly changing world.

We believe everyone has the right to feel connected to the nature on their doorstep even those living beside the world’s busiest shipping lane. We also believe everyone has the right to know how their local nature is changing, and the impacts this will have on their local community."

During the walk, you will:

  • Using grounding and visualisation techniques to connect with our shoreline, its history, and our place in it
  • Explore reefs and rockpools in search of familiar faces, and learn about those out-of-sight beneath the waves
  • Explore how our seas are changing in the face of modern ecological crises, and what this will mean for our community beside the shore
  • Reflect on our sea's lessons of hope and resilience, and the agency and power we hold to protect it
  • Provide space for relaxation and decompression, with space to write, draw, reflect and connect throughout

Meeting Location: Meet at the Botany Bay Beach Kiosk, before beginning the walk along the shore.

Age Restrictions: This event is for those aged 16 - 29 years old.

Accessibility: Botany Bay is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible, but we will be looking to host future walks on wheelchair-accessible beaches soon. Further accessibility information for Botany Bay can be found here: botany-bay-access-statement-google-docs.pdf.

Time: They recommend arriving 10 minutes before start time, as you will be moving on from the meeting point shortly after the session begins.

What to Bring:

  • Water (Food and drink can be purchased at the local kiosk)
  • Sun cream
  • A blanket or towel to sit on
  • Sturdy shoes that you do not mind getting sandy and salty!
