Group show by Nadia Eloise, David Tovar and Michel Cubillos (Mique) at Margate's Salon gallery
Open daily 11am - 5pm
Private view 6pm - 9pm Friday 14th August
This show originated with the artists simply playing, sharing, and talking about how their work - although different in style and medium - could come together.
They found themselves focusing on the running theme of intimacy that we all explore through imagery of bodies, sexuality, and the uncovering of our own identities, while pushing against the boundaries and limitations that society places on us.
They cheekily imagined bringing their work together as a threesome, through three distinct perspectives, shared curiosity and sense of play.
They wanted to explore what lies beneath the surface of the basic ideas of sexuality that are so often associated with this word: fantasy, stereotype, or pornography.
But the idea of a threesome can reveal much deeper questions about desire, intimacy, vulnerability, validation, power, connection, and self-discovery. It opens up emotional connections and psychological landscapes that exist beneath what is censored or labelled as dirty.
They hope to create a visual connection that goes beyond carnal desire. Perhaps a safe space where you can see yourself. By openly exploring personal desires, fantasies, kinks, fetishes, and emotions, they aim to create a space that celebrates our bodies and the idea of pleasure - one where you can draw your own conclusions about what you are seeing and feeling.
