Xanthe’s World is a new series of story‑led family art workshops at the Tom Thumb Theatre.
11am - 1pm
Led by Xanthe (8), an exhibiting young artist, and co‑developed with photographer and arts marketer Imogen Tinkler. Each workshop is inspired by a major artist and invites children and adults to make work side by side, exploring pattern, colour and new ways of looking at the world.
At the heart of Xanthe’s World is one idea: art can be anything you want it to be, when you create it together.
Families will also have the rare chance to experience what it’s like to have their work exhibited : each family can choose one or two pieces from the workshops to be shown in a playful, informal exhibition upstairs in the bar on Saturday 5th September, where they can invite friends and family to come and see what they’ve made.
Xanthe’s World: Yayoi Kusama
Story‑led workshop
A joyful, pattern‑driven workshop where children and families:
- Take part in a story‑led introduction to Yayoi Kusama, exploring how she turns dots and patterns into whole worlds.
- Play through short, playful warm‑ups in mark‑making and repetition to loosen up how they use colour and pattern.
- Make your own Kusama creature – an invented character, plant or object covered in bold patterns and dots – working together or side by side.
- Create a collective dot world: a shared artwork that brings everyone’s creatures and shapes together into one large patterned universe.
Ages 4+ with a grown‑up. All materials provided
