Another exciting adventure with the Raku kiln and your inner pyromaniac at Margate's Clayspace

1.30pm - 4.30pm

Obvara originated in Eastern Europe in the Middle Ages, and involves scalding a beautiful finish onto pottery to seal the porous surface.

Similar to the Raku fired process, a bisque fired pot is heated in the special Raku kiln and then dipped in a special yeast mixture before being dunked in water to rapidly cool the piece.

The effects are quite stunning, and the process creates an organic, decorative finish. It also smells really lovely, like toasting bread!

A selection of biscuit fired pieces will be provided for you to choose from.

If you want to take your own work, please check with Clayspace for suitability first, as some clay bodies and shapes are more likely to crack.
